Geeky But Cool - Nvidia 3D
by Gr1mmy
21.1.09

In this edition of Geeky But Cool I will be talking about NVIDIA 3D. This new piece of kit allows you to play your video games in full 3D like you would get by going to an Imax cinema, you don't get the silly blue and red cardboard glasses but a state of the art plastic glasses allowing you to get even more immersed in your gaming experience. This technology will be available to you right now if you are willing to pay £100 for the glasses and drivers for the program. There are already a large list of games that are compatible with the technology such as Mirrors Edge, World of Warcraft and Call of Duty.

Geeky But Cool - Lets Talk Caffeine
by Gr1mmy
7.1.09

First of all I'd like to apologize for my long absence and would like to bring you another edition of my Geeky But Cool column. Which will now be posted weekly.

Those of you that don't know about the web comic Ctrl+Alt+Del need to know that the comic started a gaming phenomena/holiday called Winter-een-mas to celebrate gaming in all forms. If you want to know more about the holiday you can head over to the website and read all about it.

Those of you that do know about it may have held your own gaming parties and events lasting throughout the night, and may want to find out ways of staying awake, so lets talk caffeine!

Here are a few different caffeine products you can use to stay awake.

Firstly there are your run of the mill energy drinks such as:
  • Relentless
  • Red Bull
  • Rockstar
  • Jolt
Next are you have your specialty sweets which you can buy from ThinkGeek, these are things like the Headshot Gamer chocolate, Wasabi Gumballs and Buzz Strong's Caffeinated Cookies all to keep you owning all night.

If you don't want to spend too much money theres always the strong coffee which is good but face it its no where near as cool.

Do you feel left out because all your friends are in huge amounts of debt? Then look no further, loyal PlayStationers, for we have the solution!

That, ladies and gentlemen, is the official Visa PlayStation credit card. Sony tell us that the credit card is to 'offer fans a new way to show off their PlayStation pride' and allow fans to gain points towards the buying of PlayStation and Sony products.

Geeky But Cool - WoW Tabard Shirts
by Gr1mmy
12.8.08
Blizzard and a clothing company called SwapDog have come together to start creating custom T Shirts on their website, its not available to buy yet but will be soon. You can fully customise the shirt with your characters details, including Name, Server, Battlegroup, Faction, Race and Class. You also need to include your Guild details, including the Tabard colour and Emblem.

This seems to be pretty cool but its only a good idea if you are planning on staying in a Guild that is stable or that you know wont disband so you wont have wasted your money.

Geeky But Cool: Retro PS3 Games
by Linford Butler
29.7.08

Remember when you were young and the only games out there were little black and white things with a moving snake? Well, now you can play two much loved classics on your £400 console, using one of the PS3's more low-key features.

BD-J, or Blu-Ray Disk Java for those who didn't know, is a handy bit of tech which allows your PS3 to play bonus content back from a form of remote storage (whether that be a Blu-Ray Disk or a USB Drive).

A mysterious programmer, known only as Dragula96, has created some fantastic renditions of the old favourites Snake and Pong to be played back on your PS3.

The Snake game works very much the same way as the original - collect the food without hitting the walls, and everything's hunky dory.

Pong is also true to the original, but written for two players as well as just one, so you can play with a friend, should the next-gen graphics of MGS4 become too much for you.

They're simple to install, too - download the .rar file, unzip it using a client such as WinRAR, copy the AVCHD folder to a USB drive, Memory Stick, SD Card or whatever you like, and then browse to where the folder is under 'Video' on the XMB menu.

You can find the download links below.

Geeky But Cool - Murloc Plushie
by Gr1mmy
8.7.08

I was browsing around Play.com looking for some kind of video game figure to stand next to King Leonidas on my shelf when I found this awesome looking Talking Murloc Plushie from WoW. It apparently makes the murloc noise when you squeeze it. The price is a bit steep at £24.99 but im sure it would look cool in your room or next to your PC.

The Talking Murloc Plushie will be available in September this year.

Geeky But Cool - Mana Potions
by Gr1mmy
9.6.08

Ever get tired of drinking the same old energy drinks or that really nasty coffee you make just to stay awake? Well looking around on the Internet I have found the perfect soloution, for just $20(£10) you can get your hands on 6 small Mana Energy Potions. Each Potion contains 160 mg of caffeine which is about 2 cans of Red Bull.

These things would be awesome for those late night raids or those LAN parties. But on the downside you will have to pay for shipping. Find out more at ThinkGeek.

The best selling MMO of all time has given their 9 million person fan base something so cool, a company has come to Blizzard with an amazing offer, they're giving WoW players the opportunity to have their very own 3D replica of their WoW Character. What they do is look up your character on the World of Warcraft Armory and take all of your characters details and use sophisticated technology to turn your on screen character into 1:18 scale model statue with its name on a small plaque. But heres the let down, to get your hands on one of these replicas you need to pay around £50 or $99.95 plus shipping.
